History of the heritage center in Čezsoča

In November 2020, the old building was demolished.

In 1947, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia adopted guidelines for the new organization of farmers in the form of cooperatives. The construction of cooperative houses had a central place in the new village arrangement. Cooperative houses were built by volunteers. The cooperative house included a tavern, a shop, a cultural hall, an office for the Local People’s Committee, and an apartment for the manager.
The Čezsoča residents began construction of the cooperative house in the spring of 1948, and it was ceremoniously opened in June. It was only fully completed in August 1950.

The earthquake of 2004 severely damaged the cooperative house building to the extent that rehabilitation was no longer feasible. In a 2017 auction, the building was purchased by the company KIO d.o.o., owned by the local Kopač family. The company prepared a project for a new cooperative house with the same exterior appearance, except the roof was to have the characteristic pitch of 45°. According to the plan, the new building on the ground floor would have the same functionality as the original cooperative house: a shop, tavern, and cultural hall. The first and second floors were planned to be a hotel.
